Raggedy App: Context Building

It’s been awhile since we’ve thought about formal operations for using LLMs. Thinking about using them in standardized ways. Similar to inserts, updates, deletes, as defined database operations. Inspired by Vincent’s recent post about LLM spells, it reminded us that we really think of using LLMs as building context to achieve the result you want. To us it seems obvious. We’ve lived under the bubble and our occasional outside contact reminds us that what’s obvious to us might not be for others. Most people have only used LLMs behind some limited chat interface.

So, the next time you’re using an LLM pretend you’re the teacher, guiding the student to the response you want. This is done either augmented by RAG or you the teacher giving a lesson, sometimes even with teacher and textbook. Dictation to your digital counterpart. To us they’re all one in the same. Each with applications. You’re leading your horse to water.
